My name is Denise Takakjy. I am a licensed professional counselor and a licensed behavioral therapist providing individual and family therapy here in Pennsylvania. I am also a national certified counselor and a child and adolescent trauma professional. I specialize in treating emotional and behavioral issues associated with trauma or other big and challenging events. I use cognitive behavioral therapy as the primary intervention and provide trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy and comprehensive dialectical behavioral therapy. I provide group interventions for DBT skills and parent support. My goal is to tailor treatment plans to the unique needs of your tween or teen. Although I specialize in working with tweens and teens, I also provide support for parents.
I received my master's in clinical mental health counseling with a specialization in crisis and trauma from Walden University in 2014. I have over 8 years of experience working with clients of all ages. My focus is on helping tweens and adolescents develop skills needed to manage trauma symptoms and help parents develop skills to support their children. I am currently completing my PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision with a specialization in crisis and trauma through Walden University. I belong to several professional organizations including the American Counseling Association (national and state), American Mental Health Association (national and state), the Association for Adolescent Counseling, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (national and state). I have an interest in working with community organizations on building resilient, trauma-informed communities. I have presented at several conferences on issues of trauma and children and adolescent mental health services. I am also an adjunct faculty member currently teaching undergrad behavioral health students at Grand Canyon University as well as an associate faculty member in the graduate Mental Health Counseling program at University of Phoenix.
As a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania, I provide individual and group supervision to those seeking licensure. My focus in supervision is to work with supervisees on understanding the role that trauma plays in clients' lives and to help supervisees develop into competent counselors.
I provide training and consultation to organizations seeking to implement trauma-informed programming.
