Dialectical Behavioral Therapy is a comprehensive therapy that specifically addresses emotional regulation and distress tolerance problems. This is an evidence-based treatment for teens who have histories of hospitalization for suicidal ideation and self-injury. This program focuses on skill building to teach skills in areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regualtion, and interpersonal effectiveness. The program includes a weekly individual session and a weekly group session. Also included is phone coaching where therapist coaches your child in skills to use when needed. This program is 24 weeks and you and your teen will be asked to commit to this time period. There are many skills that are taught in the four modules with the goal of helping your teen to regulate strong emotions and tolerate the distresses of life.
